Though none go with me, still I will follow. No turning back, no turning back." The most challenging part of my journey, has been having to walk alone... The older I become, the less of a challenge it is. I've had to remind myself during difficult seasons, that Christ, Himself walked alone. Though surrounded by Twelve, he yet often found himself at a "Table for Two." While in the Garden of Gethsemane, none watched with him though he pleaded for an hourly watch. And when troops came to besiege him, again, the Twelve dispersed, abandoning him altogether. Arrested, and forced to carry his own cross to Golgotha in the heat of the day, beaten, parched, weary and humanly afraid, again, the Twelve were nowhere to be found. Finally, nailed to the tree of disgrace, Jesus cried out with a deep and dire inquiry of his Father's whereabouts, as the feeling of forsake had overpowered him greatly. Yet, in all of this, Christ did not turn around. He wept, travailed, inquired... but He did not turn back. I am reminded of Paul's Letter to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:16, where he informs, "...No one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them. But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me..." Despite the MIA of his fellow servants and co-laborers, Paul did not hold them in contempt for their absence. But instead, prayed for them. And neither did Jesus with the Twelve. For all who did not stand with you, who could not keep watch, who refused you in your darkest hour, "may it not be charged against them." Yes, though none go with you, continue following and purpose in your heart to never turn back. You--I owe God an Unconditional Follow, despite all.
