"It's a different world, from where we've come from..." Informs the cover song to the hit 80's television series, A Different World.
Recalling several of the episodes, I pose this one rethorical, "What happened to raw simplicity and integrity?" "Reality Television", which has since replaced such culturally authentic and culturally conscience programs as, A Different World, were supposed to present real life issues, in real time, with limited production or staging. Yet, it is the very opposite. Even video games have now become morbidlly fantastical ideals that lure and entrap the lonely into an "unrealistic" underworld, accessible only through alternative realms of fake reality.
Our attempt at Realness as a society, has actually pushed us further into unrevocable hypocrisy. Think about it, we present rudeness as realness?" Even our world news is - FAKE! Realness, today, actually underwrites a behavior which has historically been deemed most inappropriate. Yet today, is perceived as honest and unfake. For some who can remember when... They vehemently "put a little respekt on it," as it so demands for fear of the unknown. Having neither filter nor chaser, but all smoke & mirrors, the new fake REAL can be quite intimidating?
Well, further irony points to the superficiality of fashionable trends, which are premised on the illusion of real. Knock-off personalities, cloned lifestyles, misappropriated identities, tupperware bodies; borrowed, bought (or stolen) hair.. Dont misconstrue my observation. This is not a "judgment" of any person or group of persons, but rather an awkward observation of a growing trend with much concern. The truth of the matter? The TRUE REAL is nearly extinct! Even in the faith community, things are not as they appear. For many have now, even as the bible so reveals, the form and appearance of godliness, though they deny the very power thereof.
What is the Theologic of this oxymoronic concept? Well, let's look at Isaiah 5:20, which speaks to the contradictory state of the world in the "last days." The prophet informs that during such this time, people will say that "wrong is right, and right is wrong." They will call "black white, and white black." These are contradictions and modifications to the initial norms of truth. But does not God also use reversed truths? "Now, let the weak say that they are strong, and the poor that they are rich" (Joel 3:10). Paul further informs in Romans 4:17, that God, who quickens the dead, does likewise call those things that are not, as though they are. God in essence, reverses truth (lowercase "t") which is premised on the limited understanding of mortals, with Truth (capital "T") which emerges from the mind of Divinity, for God's good will and purpose. The difference, lies therein the overall intent of the reversal of truths. Does it have a godly purpose or simply a goodly purpose? Does it direct the least among us to a vertical hope or misdirects them away from the hope of glory?
New Fake Real, unfortunately does the latter. It misguides, misdirects, and misleads for the sake of propaganda.
